English 102 Class Summary

English 102 with Prof. Candia has by far been one of my favorite english classes that I have taken. During the semester we have read a lot of literature that has kept me interested throughout the class. Unfortunately the semester has come to an end so soon and we have only began to touch base on the short stories, poems and plays that we have read.

To begin the semester we started reading short stories by famous authors such as Ernest Hemmingway, John Updike, William Faulkner, Edgar Allen Poe, and Shirley Jackson. Through these great authors I learned the uses of many different literary devices such as irony, setting and point of view. The use of these literary devices helped me to become a much better writer by utilizing these techniques. I believe that I have learned a lot more about writing in this one semester through learning new techniques and writing on a consistant basis.

Another interesting topic we touched base on this semester was poetry. We read pieces from poets such as Robert Frost, Langston Hughes and William Wordsworth. In my opinion Langston Hughes was my favorite poet that we covered. Langston Hughes really expressed himself well throughout his poetry. He was such a talented writer that he used techniques such as illiterate writing to better display his message through his poems. Langstgon Hughes' techniques helped me to become a better writer and create better imagery for the reader.

As a result this has been a very good semester for me. The assignments we were given were very interesting to me and they helped me to become better at writing. Although having the struggle of waking up to make it to class on time, it has been a class I have enjoyed attending and I would recommend this class along with Prof. Candia to any student.
